Description:
Potassium Sulphate (K₂SO₄) is a highly effective, water-soluble salt used primarily as a shale stabilizer in drilling operations, especially when drilling through hydro-sensitive clays and shales. Through an ion exchange process, potassium ions bind the clay platelets together, preventing water infiltration from the drilling fluid and stabilizing the shale.

Applications:

• Drilling Fluids: Potassium Sulphate can be directly added to drilling fluid systems to enhance their inhibitive properties, making them ideal for drilling in sensitive formations.
• Weighting Agent: It serves as a weighting agent in drilling fluids, with densities ranging from 1.005 SG (8.4 lb/gal) to 1.075 SG (8.95 lb/gal).
• Saturation: A Potassium Sulphate solution becomes saturated at 1.075 SG (8.95 lb/gal), with a maximum concentration of 9%. Beyond this, solubility decreases.

5,Character: It occurs as colorless or white hard crystal or as crystalline powder. It tastes bitter and salty. Relative density is 2.662. 1g dissolves in about 8.5mL of water. It’s insoluble in ethanol and acetone. The pH of 5% aqueous solution is about 5.5 to 8.5.

6,Usage: It is used as seasoning and salt substitute.

 7,Packing: It is packed with polyethylene bag as inner layer, and a compound plastic woven bag as outer layer. The net weight of each bag is 25kg.

8,Storage and Transport: It should be stored in a dry and ventilative warehouse, kept away from heat and moisture during transportation, unloaded with care so as to avoid damage. Furthermore, it must be stored separately from poisonous substances.
