Potassium Bifluoride (KHF₂)

Synonyms: Potassium Hydrogen Fluoride
CAS No.: 7789-29-9
Molecular Formula: KHF₂
Molecular Weight: 78.10 g/mol

Description:

Potassium Bifluoride is a colorless, tetragonal or cubic crystalline solid with a slightly acidic odor. It has a relative density of 2.37 and a melting point of 225°C. Potassium bifluoride is highly soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. Its aqueous solution exhibits acidity. While stable in dry air, it decomposes in humid air, releasing hydrogen fluoride (HF). When heated to 310°C, it releases HF gas, with a steam pressure of 0.10325 Mpa (1 atm) at 400°C. The activity of fused potassium bifluoride is greater than that of potassium fluoride, but it is toxic and caustic.
